The Beaches
Flag Beach
Fuerteventura is renowned for its beautiful beaches and the beaches within Corralejo are exceptional. Just south of our villa (by car less than 5 minutes and you can easily park by the side of the road) is flag beach. You can walk there in about 15 minutes cutting across the open area at the end of the road and following the footpath. Flag beach is very popular for surfers and kite surfers. There is also a surf school there for those wanting to improve their skills.
Dunas de Corralejo Beach
Recognisable by the incredible sand dunes, this is almost 7km of sandy beach and a UNESCO site which has protected it from over development. Due to its size it never seems busy and dotted along the entire length are lifeguard stations making it safe for all ages. The ‘stone circles’ provide a place to spend the day and give shelter from the breeze. It is just south of Corralejo and it starts within about 5 minutes by car from the villa. Just drive along until you find an area you would like to stop and park on the side of the road. Take what you need for the day as there are no bars or restaurants – partly what makes it so special – sand & sea in front of you. Sand behind you. It’s peaceful, picturesque, and we think one of the best beaches in the world.
El Cotillo
An hours drive away, but one of our favourite places to visit, is El Cotillo situated in the north-east of Fuerteventura. Here you will find the beaches of the small coastal town of El Cotillo. The beaches here are really a series of family-friendly coves of white sand and calm turquoise waters. Our preferred beach is La Concha, with gently sloping sand into the water makes it very safe for young children. The town itself has a small number of bars and restaurants.
Corralejo Beach
In Corralejo town is the beach with restaurants and bars dotted along the front. This is a perfect way to spend a lazy day combining lounging on the beach and visits to a selection of bars and restaurants all overlooking the sea.
